The Laramie Project

Creative Work

Gleason’s creative practice focuses on directing. She tends to pursue projects that engage the mythic and challenge audiences by communicating through the body. In recent years she has also discovered a love for directing comedy and musical theatre, finding the rigors of timing a joke or a musical number an exciting test of her skills. Furthermore, her commitment to work on new plays and championing new voices in theatre as both a director and a dramaturg are central to her dedication to theatre as a tool for social justice. Finally, when the opportunity arises she enjoys designing sets or costumes.

Instruction

With 20 years of university teaching experience, Gleason has been awarded for her teaching and mentorship at the University of Wisconsin, University of Missouri and by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region 5. Her research engages in the craft of theatre pedagogy and she has served as Co-chair of Pedagogy Symposium at the Mid-America Theatre Conference. From graduate seminars to introductory survey courses, she meets students where they are, challenging them to grow in in their creative and research skills.
